Little Progress on Child Poverty Rate Since 1990
One in six American children grow up in poverty, according to the 30th edition of the KIDS COUNT Data Book, the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s annual assessment of child well-being. Virtually no progress on child poverty has been made since 1990, when the first Data Book was published, and racial inequities persist. However, 11 of 16 index measures – tracking education, health, family and community and economic well-being – have improved over that time period.
