Linking Housing to Health at the County Level

The health effects of the affordable housing crisis are the focus of the 2019 County Health Rankings, an annual report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. The report measures health factors – such as smoking, obesity and the quality of air and water – in almost every American county. More than one in ten households spend over half their income on housing, and the report finds that severe housing cost burdens are associated with increased child poverty, food insecurity and people in fair or poor health.
