Knight News Challenge Winners Do Data

“The Knight Foundation announced 17 winners for its News Challenge on Data Tuesday afternoon. Each of the winners gets a share of $3.2 million to develop their proposed projects made to answer the question: How might we make data work for individuals and communities? Out of 1,065 applications submitted, 17 came out winners – a mix of nonprofit startups, collaborations and large institutions. The winning projects covered topics like data literacy, transparency, crowd-sourcing and privacy among others. […] The winning project Documents Empowerment Project will try to help low-income Americans prove their eligibility for public benefit programs.”
