Improving Opportunity: Building on Past Successes

A new report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities calls on policymakers to expand evidence-based programs that increase economic opportunity for low-income workers. Improving Opportunity: Building on Past Successes notes that Republican candidates at the January 9 Kemp Forum on Poverty and Opportunity stressed the importance of education and skills for low-income Americans. To meet that goal, the report recommends greater investment in vocational training for high-demand jobs, expanding subsidized job programs that allow workers to build skills while earning a living, and strengthening the EITC for childless workers.
