Why Housing and Health Initiatives Should Work Together

A new report from the Urban Institute examines organizations across the country that are integrating housing and health services in low-income communities. Emerging Strategies for Integrating Health and Housing: Innovations to Sustain, Expand, and Replicate argues that bringing quality healthcare and doctors directly into homes and communities, particularly those without access to such services, effectively combines the resources of two major sources of social and economic support for vulnerable populations. The authors recommend that local institutions align health and housing in one place, use public housing developments to improve health outcomes, and increase data-sharing between housing and health authorities.
