Glenn Ellis: Dental health suffers for children in poverty

Poverty leaves a lasting impact on the dental health of our most vulnerable population — children. The U.S. Surgeon General’s report of 2000 clearly showed that the most common chronic disease among children is tooth decay. Although tooth decay is almost completely preventable, according to the Surgeon General cavities are five times more common than asthma and seven times more common than hay fever and allergies.”
