A Focus on Women in the Workforce

While researchers and policymakers have been largely focused on the drop in men’s employment rates in the U.S., there has also been a sharp reduction in paid work among American women, a new brief from the Brookings Institution notes. Enough About Men: 3 Reasons to Boost Women’s Work argues that getting more women into the labor market would narrow the gap between worker skills and employer needs and boost the country’s economic growth. The brief also maintains that a higher employment rate for women would cut the child poverty rate and lift more families above the poverty line.
