Editorial: Virginia’s bond system needs overhaul
“Virginia’s attorney general, Mark Herring, has been making news as he calls for reforms to the state’s cash bail system. Herring doesn’t have the power to set bond policy himself, but he’s offering to work with the Virginia Crime Commission and the General Assembly as they try to come up with a fairer and more effective way to handle bail. He noted that the state Supreme Court, and judges and prosecutors, also could take actions that would reduce the problem.”
