BY THE SECOND week of lockdown, my 12-year-old son and I had developed a ritual that neither of us enjoyed. Three or four times a day I’d pass through the kitchen of our Queens apartment and spot the kid seated at the Formica table, eyes locked on the screen of his hand-me-down MacBook Pro.
