Diaper bank provides sanitary products for families in need in the Mid-South
“’When you think about the inflation that has gone on with so many different products it’s really important to stop and look at things individually,’ said Douglas. ‘Diaper need and period poverty are two very new ideas when people are thinking about what people need to survive. And adult incontinence products, a lot of people view them as adult diapers and that just puts a negative stigma on it already. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s important to understand that that’s a trying time that someone’s not able to take care of their own health needs.’
According to the Mid-South Food Bank, an adult can spend over $160 a month for adult briefs. It reports that more than 23-percent of girls and women between the ages of 10-44 live in poverty in Shelby County. That means Low-income families and individuals are unable to purchase period products due to lack of income.”
