Democratic governors seek unemployment benefits for shutdown workers
“Democratic governors, mayors and members of Congress are urging the Department of Labor to allow ‘excepted’ federal employees required to work through the government shutdown to collect unemployment benefits. Although furloughed federal employees are eligible to collect unemployment benefits, the roughly 450,000 employees who must work through the shutdown are not because, under the DOL interpretation of the governing statute, they are employed.”
