Cleveland’s poverty numbers should shock us all into advocacy

“Any discussion about the number of people in poverty has to begin with a caveat: A family that makes just above the federal government’s poverty threshold is still awfully poor. More than that, one could argue that a family that makes significantly more than the government’s poverty threshold is really poor. So when we look at the government’s statistics about how many people are living in poverty, we shouldn’t not extrapolate that everybody above that line is making it. Lots and lots of people above that line are poor, too”
