City’s housing policy is not adding up

“New York City’s poorest households—the 670,000 classified as ‘extremely low-income’ because they earn less than about $28,000 for a family of three—bear the brunt of the city’s housing crisis. They are the most likely to face evictions, displacement and homelessness. Over 60% of them pay more than half their income in rent, more than twice the percentage of renters overall. These severe rent burdens greatly increase their likelihood of getting evicted and make life incredibly difficult.”
