Bleak New Figures Show Just How Unaffordable Rent Is In Every U.S. State
“A staggering gap between wages and the cost of rental housing across America threatens the stability of millions of families, according to a Wednesday report. There is not one U.S. state, metropolitan area or county in which someone working a 40-hour week on the federal minimum wage of $7.25 can afford to rent a modest two-bed apartment. Minimum wage workers would need to work a 122-hour week, or hold down three full-time jobs, to make a modest two-bed rental home affordable.”
