America’s Big Racial Divide on Police and Coronavirus

A new poll from Axios-Ipsos, conducted May 29-June 1, found that white and African American respondents differed significantly on their opinions regarding the police and the coronavirus. More than 75 percent of white respondents say that trust the police, compared with just 36 percent of African American respondents. Seventy five percent of African Americans also said that they extremely or very concerned that coronavirus is doing greater damage to people of color, and 70 percent are concerned that official COVID-19 responses are biased against some racial groups. This compares to only 30 percent of whites who are concerned about the coronavirus damage to people of color, and about one third of whites who expressed concern that COVID-19 responses are racially biased.
