Affordable housing program aims to level the field for low-income New Mexicans

“Organizations throughout New Mexico now have the opportunity to help New Mexicans in need of a home. The New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority has begun the ‘Restoring Our Communities’ program — and officials like Donna-Maestas De Vries with MFA say it comes at the right time. ‘[New Mexicans] are paying more for housing than they can afford,’ De Vries said. ‘So we absolutely need to provide more homes that are affordable for average New Mexicans.’ The program’s goal is to rehabilitate abandoned or vacant houses for potential homebuyers below or at the area median income, which the MFA said comes out to roughly $32,000 annually.”
