Better Child Care for Parents in Class or Training

A new report from the Urban Institute outlines the child care needs of low-income parents seeking education or job training and how local and state programs can address those needs. Strategies to Meet the Child Care Needs of Low-Income Parents Seeking Education and Training notes that low-income parents taking classes or professional development may require multiple child care providers or nontraditional hours, but often lack the information and resources to coordinate child care. The report recommends that local and state programs assess the needs of parents in their communities and work more closely with government and other nearby programs to ensure consistent access to child care for all parents.
