August 22 Forum – The 20th Anniversary of Welfare Reform: Learning From the Past to Guide the Future

The Secretaries’ Innovation Group, American Enterprise Institute, University of Maryland, and Progressive Policy Institute will host a forum to discuss the conditions that allowed for the historic 1996 welfare reform law to pass, and how such significant reform could be passed today. Speakers include former governors John Engler (R-MI) and Tommy Thompson (R-WI); Wendell Primus, senior policy adviser to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA): Bruce Reed, former policy adviser to President Bill Clinton; and several local and state experts on social programs and policy.
