Abortion Access Impeded for Poor Americans

A new study based on data from the National Network of Abortion Funds finds that low-income women, particularly those who are young or black, are often unable to afford abortion due to federal and state regulations on abortion funding. The Undue Burden of Paying for Abortion: An Exploration of Abortion Fund Cases finds that in 2015, women needed to travel an average of nearly 200 miles and pay more than $2,000 out of pocket to have an abortion, both significant increases from 2010. The data suggests that many women have to delay their procedure until they can raise enough money to afford it, according to the researchers.
